以下是N1的FAQs.

Question: I own a large collection of AE/MM type lenses for the manual focus system. Will you manufacture an adapter to allow their use on the N1?
Answer: No, the lens flange (lens mount ring) to film plane distance is greater on the N1 than the manual focus cameras. Therefore, unless an additional lens element is added to the Adapter, the lens will have to fit inside the body of the N1 to focus to infinity. The solution to this problem is far more complex than the simple manufacturing of a mount ring.

Question: When would I use the F.A.B.C. (focus automatic bracketing control) system on the N1?

Answer: Professionals are often not in control of their images after the film is developed. Editors may want to shift attention to other parts of a composition. By bracketing focus, the photographer is providing insurance that gives the editor choices concerning the focus point in a scene. Additionally, and perhaps more commonly, photographers, sometimes, concentrate on the composition and neglect other responsibilities like finding the proper focus point. The Focus Automatic Bracketing Control, F.A.B.C., again, provides insurance to the photographer that leads to more usable frames on the roll of film.

Question: How does the Command Dial work? It seems to do different things at different times.

Answer: The Command Dial is a multi-function dial. It is used to set the film ISO, Custom Functions, Exposure Compensation and Shutter Speeds, all independently.

To set ISO: Turn the Exposure Mode Lever to ISO, then turn the Command Dial to the desired ISO setting for manual selection or set to DX for automatic selection.

To select a Custom Function: Turn the Exposure Mode Lever to the Custom Function position and then rotate the Command Dial to select any one of 20 Custom Functions.

AV/(Aperture Priority)
When shutter dial and Exposure Compensation Dial is set to green the command dial becomes your Exposure Compensation control.

TV (Shutter Priority)
When shutter dial and Exposure Compensation Dial is set to green the command dial becomes your shutter control.

Program
When shutter dial and Exposure Compensation Dial is set to green the command dial becomes your Exposure Compensation control.

Manual
When shutter dial and Exposure Compensation Dial is set to green the command dial becomes your shutter control. When shutter dial is moved off of green the command dial becomes your Exposure Compensation control.

Question: How did Contax achieve the high focusing speed of the N1?

Answer: Engineers at Contax worked for many years to achieve high-speed auto focus with no impact on optical quality. This was a major project, consuming a lot of Research and Development resources. The heart of the problem was that to achieve high speed, optical quality had to be sacrificed. This was anathema to Carl Zeiss. So, to achieve the speed needed for the N1, special high-torque ultrasonic motors were developed. Additionally, lightweight carbon fiber components were integrated throughout the lens along with new no lead/arsenic glass invented by Carl Zeiss. These lighter lens components meant there was less weight to drive yet stringent tolerances could be maintained to preserve optical integrity.

Question: Is there an external power pack available for cold weather or general use?

Answer: Yes, The Contax N1 offers a variety of external power solutions. The P-9 Battery Holder provides two types of power sources, you may use one 2CR5 6-volt lithium or four AA (LR6) Batteries. There is a switch located on the side so you may toggle between the two power sources.

The P-8 Power Pack is an external power source that takes four AA (LR6) Batteries or four NiCd(LR20) 1.5 volt batteries. This power sources gets connected to the P-8 Power receptacle located at the base of the N1. In low temperature environments battery performance is reduced, but external power sources can be protected from the cold during shooting.

The P-8D Power Pack is an external power source that takes four D Alkaline (1.5volts) or four NiCd batteries. This power sources also gets connected to the P-8 Power receptacle located at the base of the N1 and can be protected from cold environments increasing battery longevity.

Question: Is it possible to leave the leader out on rewind?

Answer: Yes, Custom Function number 16 allows you to turn that feature on or off. Note: (The N1 offers 20 Custom Functions)

Question: How do I control the Auto Focus Points?

Answer: The Five Auto Focus points are controlled by the Auto select lever in sets of two or independently by the manual select lever.

Question: How do I do multiple exposures with the N1?

Answer: Easy, Press the Drive Mode and Light buttons together for at least two seconds to enter the Multiple Exposure mode. You will see two overlapping rectangles when you're in Multiple Exposure mode. Turn the Command Dial until the proper number of exposures is selected (2 to 9 frames may be selected.) Press the Drive button and the overlapping rectangles will blink and the number of multiple exposures will be illuminated in the frame counter areas of the LCD. This number will decrease as exposures are made. After all the exposures have been made the Multiple Exposure mode will be released back to the standard film advance mode. Note: Proper technique dictates reducing the exposure by one over the number of exposures made. In other words, if you are making a double exposure, set the Exposure Compensation Dial to -1 to produce _ the exposure on each frame. If a triple exposure is required, set the Exposure Compensation Dial to -1.3.

Question: I notice that the hot shoe on my N1 has five pins. What functions do I gain with the addition of two extra pins?

Answer: Only two pins are required for TTL with the Contax TLA system. The third pin provides a flash ready/flash OK light in the viewfinder. On the N1 the two additional pins provide several new functions. The additional features with five pins are; the ability to set flash-fill ratios from the Contax TLA 360, rather than dialing them in on the camera exposure compensation dial. The TLA 360 will automatically zoom the flash head to provide the appropriate angle of view for the installed lens, and the TLA 360 can now use the Auto-set feature that powers the flash down when not used.

Question: When I am in manual focus is there a way to go to AF without turning a dial.

Answer: Yes, When in manual focus you can jump to AF by simply depressing the Focus button inside of the focus dial. This is critical when you need to be looking through the viewfinder and jump to AF. Note: When you are in SAF or CAF the focus button located inside of the focus dial acts as focus lock.

Question: When I am in AF is there a way to go to manual focus without turning a dial or flipping a switch?

Answer: Yes, you just simply rotate the lens to focus.

Question: If I install the NAM-1 Adapter on my N1 and mount a Contax 645 lens, what happens to the focal length and are there any other things to know about this conversion?

Answer: When mounting a Contax 645 lens on the N1 via NAM-1 adapter the lens stays the same but the application differs. For example, the 645 80mm is a standard lens on the 645 however when mounted on the N1 it becomes an 80mm semi telephoto.

GRAYNIGHT：看来你个个子不小嘛，这机器已经不算小的了，俺这不算偏心，已经分别给了几个MM拿了这机器，她们都表达了同一个意思：这是男人用的机器。

已经停产，不就是S掉的吗？

Simonny：真是各花入各眼了，N1明显继承了167MT、ARIA、RX、AX等等的外形，如果说N1“最”有男人味，那么以前的CONTAX SLR都有男人味了。 所以俺认为它并不是“最”有男人味的，F4S是以前“最”有男人味的照相机，但是已经S了；现在活着的“最”有男人味的非M9莫属啊！

Phenix828：N1离最完美的AF机还有一段距离，至少它的AF系统不能说是很理想的。俺心目中完美SLR的排列如下：最新出的1V、稍早点的M9、更早点的F5，N1只是CONTAX的一种表态的机器。
