几点随想。

谈论技术问题少了，谈论价格配镜的多了。价格就是8000-9000之间徘徊。多是8600-8800。镜头问题实际上就成了数码单反配镜方案大讨论，具体在了D70身上。

长时间暴光启动降噪功能，暴光时间加倍？这个没人提及。

24-120VR随着D70火了（挺怪），以前受尽白眼，现在商家随机猛推。

自定义影像增强模式还没有人用过。

全自动设置拍照多，手动、自定义（测光、暴光、白平衡、影像增强设置）用的少，暴光稍微过度的少。

使用滤镜的少，如偏振、渐变、暖调等。

所以你的名字就叫---胡来。

别介意，开个玩笑，不过这种赶时髦不可取。

实际上优点远不只大家经常讨论的这些。比如大家都忽略了

1 可调节的自动档启动闪光灯所需快门速度。如果没记错的话，这个功能至今只有F5上有，其他机器都没有（还是F5上也没有？）。如果你使用VR防抖头，这项功能很重要。如果你想用自动档长时间曝光也很重要。

2 中心重点测光范围可选。这也是在顶级机上才有的。可以更精确的测光、为创造性曝光提供了条件。

目前只有这个人说到ISO可自定义调节，其他家都没有提到，姑妄听之。

这个人写的自动ISO可以自预定。你可以规定快门速度慢于多少ISO自动向上调整，如果是真的，那就太完美了。

6月份上市，目前价格只是估计出来的，价格稳定后大约3500-3800人民币左右。一开始可能至少要4000左右。欧洲已经开始预订570欧元。以此判断出中国价格。大约不会偏差太多。

尼康数码伴侣多少钱？什么时间上市？

网上著名尼康激进分子、反C愤青Ken Rockwell刚刚在PMA上摸过D70并且拍了一些。把D70都快夸成一朵花了！总之，他的结论画质和别的相机相同，操作性无与伦比。另外，他强调ISO能整到6400。

INTRODUCTION

SURPRISE!!!! The D70 costs less than the D100, and it is a far better in almost every possible way! It is two years newer than the D100. The D70 is an absolutely brilliant camera.

The D70 was announced at the end of 2003 and more formally on January 28th, 2004. I shot with one for the very first time in February, 2004.

The Nikon D70 is the new benchmark for under $3,000 digital cameras. It is superior to every other digital camera under $3,000, and it even has some features lacking from far more expensive professional DSLRs.

It's even superior to Nikon's two-year old and more expensive D100.

I especially love the pro-caliber 1/500 flash sync! Claimed price of $999 for body, and $1,299 with excellent 18-70mm lens.

It is as durable as the D100, too!

SPECIFICATIONS

6 megapixels, same as almost every other DSLR. 3,008 x 2,000 pixels, also 2,240 x 1,448 and 1,504 x 1,000 pixels.

Standard size CCD, 16 x 24mm. This is better than Canon, which tends to have slightly different sized sensors in each SLR so you'll get confused if you use different cameras at the same time. This standard sensor gives a 1.5x crop factor compared to the obsolete 24 x 36mm 35mm film aperture.

ISO 200 - 1,600, also pushable to ISO 6,400, absolutely excellent. I read 6,400 in the literature, although on first use I didn't see the 3,200 and 6,400 push settings. I'm sure they just need to be enabled in a menu.

Mirror pentaprism (not glass), cheap but light. The D100 is glass.

1/500 sync speed, superior to D2H and D100 and every other consumer DSLR. This is a critically important spec and is a key reason I would buy the D70 over the more expensive D100, D2H, Canon 10D or Digital Rebel.

White Balance is full featured, meaning a full adjustment for each preset, typical for Nikon but painfully lacking in Canon 10D or Digital Rebel, this will be another reason to prefer the D70 to all of them. The ability to fine-tune each WB preset is very important and overlooked by most people who are new to digital SLRs. This really affects your image quality far more than just about any other specification for real photography in the field.

Odd claimed 144 image buffer at 3FPS. This is the world's best if true. Other specs list only a 12 frame buffer. Personally, except for extreme insane sports shots of long sequences I find even 9 frames is always more than enough. The buffer is only 4 shots in the tedious RAW format.

The RAW + JPG mode records two separate files, far more useful than the silly Canon method. Canon records both to the same file which only can be read by special software, which makes no sense. Not only does the D70 make two separate files, but just as importantly it is super easy to set this mode.

New iTTL flash modes, available only with the new 600 and 800 flashes, improve the flash performance. You even can use the in-camera flash as a master for easy wireless control of an off-camera flash, way, way cool! This means you can just hold the big flash off to the side and get great two-light automatic TTL lighting.

You get the same TTL modes as older cameras like the D100 did with older flashes like the SB-28DX.

Automatic image rotation, Hallelujah!!! This means your vertical shots come out vertical. They don't have to be rotated the hard way manually like almost every other Nikon and other camera. Even the D2H requires some external software to rotate the images since the D2H just sets a flag that needs to be read; in the D70 the image is just recorded as a vertical to begin with.

Built in flash.

1,005 segment color meter, same as F5/D1X/D1H/D2H and superior to ever other SLR on the planet.

Immediate operation, very good and very, very important. Everything on this camera just works and works NOW. This is one of the many very significant reasons this camera is far superior to point-and shoots like the Nikon 8700 and Sony DSC-F828.

5 area AF

30 seconds to 1/8000 second shutter with unbeaten 1/500 flash sync. 1/500 flash sync allows this camera to be used for serious professional portrait and action photography, unlike the other consumer DSLRs with slower sync speeds. Hopefully the rest of the D70 is up to it.

Takes CF cards and microdrives.

Li-Ion EN-EL3 battery (same as D100) and MH-18 quick charger comes included. Also you can use three CR2 batteries instead if you use the included MS-D70 battery holder; absolutely fantastic! There's an optional EH-5 AC adapter.

D100 vs. D70

There is almost no reason to prefer the D100. Here's what I've found:

D100 has and D70 lacks:

• No ability to use a vertical grip and AA batteries.
• You have to resort to a menu to switch between AF-C (continuous AF) to AF-S (single AF). All the other Nikon DSLRs have a real switch. This could be a pain, but all the other plusses outweigh this one by far.

D70 has and D100 lacks:

• Automatic vertical image rotation
• Important ISO and Quality settings all have dedicated buttons just like D1 and D2. You push the button, look at the top panel and rotate a knob; just perfect! On the D100 instead of having a dedicated button you have to rotate the same knob that controls exposure program, and then remember to return that knob to the same setting before you can shoot.
• Ability to set the slowest shutter speed to other than 1/60 with conventional flash sync. This again is important for effective use with fill flash in available light; you used to need an F5 for this or you had to revert to the old manual exposure mode the hard way.
• Real auto ISO setting. You can program how it works; you tell the D70 the slowest shutter you'd like, and when you get to that slow shutter the camera automatically ramps up the ISO as far as it can. This is brilliant.
• The clever CR2 battery adaptor works in the D70 but not the D100.

SHOULD YOU WAIT FOR IT OR RETURN YOUR NEW D100?

No, don't wait and don't return your D100. As of February 2004 Nikon tells me these will start shipping these at the end of March 2004.

Past experience with Nikon DSLRs has shown that it usually takes six months from the press release until anyone can buy the very first cameras, and it's usually a year till you can really find one in stock without a waiting list. For instance, the 12-24mm lens I saw in preview form at its announcement in March, 2003 is still not readily available, and the D100 was announced in February 2002, (a week after I bought my D1H), and no one could get one off the shelf until a year later.

I get many people asking if they should wait around to buy tomorrow's digital cameras. The answer is a clear NO, go buy today what's available. Why? Simple: there will always be a new product tomorrow, and you'll make so many great photos each week that you have a camera it's silly to wait. If you want to wait, you'll always be waiting since when the D70 may or may not become available there will always be some other new announcement.

If you already shoot Canon get the Canon Digital Rebel for $899. On the other hand, if you feel lucky, get on the waiting list at your local store or preferably Adorama and pray that you really do get one by April. Honestly, if you have an important even to shoot then buy the D100 today and don't look back, otherwise, if you are just sitting on the fence by all means go get on the D70 waiting list.

SUMMARY & FINAL SUGGESTIONS

The D70 eclipses the D100 and every other consumer DSLR because the D70 provides critical ease of use and speed, especially when it comes to the critical flash sync.

Image quality is the same as other DSLRs. Noise and resolution are the same for all practical purposes within a class, and this offers the same image quality as the other DSLR cameras.

The D70 offers superior quality to any point and shoot, and especially superior operational efficiency and practical image quality compared to the newest 8 Megapixel point and shoots like the Nikon 5700 and Canon and Sony DSC-F828. Remember the P/S digicams use much smaller pixels, so 8 million teeny pixels are not as good as the 6 million huge ones on a real DSLR. I need to write a page explaining this one of these days.

Don't forget you'll need to buy CF cards. I also strongly suggest a spare battery so you always have a fully charged one ready to go in the field. You can get them here.
